With 4 days to go til’ the big Xmas, I thought I’d run down my five festive classics…
There’s been loads of great Christmas movies on streaming services this Christmas. One of the downsides of the cinemas being closed in Nottingham this month is that I didn’t get to see ‘Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey’ (2020) on the big screen. I would’ve certainly liked to - it’s a future Christmas classic that will be on hard rotation on Netflix for years to come.
Neither did I get to see ‘A Christmas Gift From Bob’ (2020) at the cinema. I did like that. It was cuddly and cosy and catty and made me love my pet cat even more. I’m also told ‘Happiest Season’ (2020) with Kristen Stewart and MacKenzie Davis is really good, but I haven’t seen that even though it’s available to rent on multiple platforms.
Christmas movies are a lot like Christmas presents - they’re either really good or really bad. For every ‘White Christmas’ (1954) or ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ (1946), there’s a ‘Jingle All the Way’ (1996) (celebrating the crass consumerism of Christmas) or a ‘Jack Frost’ (1998) which had that awful line “snow dad’s better than no dad”.
But this Covid-19 pandemic, low-key Christmas got me thinking about what films have really put me in the festive spirit over the years. What are the movies that really stand out as seasonal classics to warm the cockles of your heart? As a result, I decided to compile a list of my top 5 festive favourites. Hope you enjoy and Merry Christmas to you all! HO! HO! HO!...
